Quick summary
- Nomad Purse is a budgeting and travel expense tracking product. The data you enter, such as trips, expenses, receipts, and notes, is used to run the Services and, if you use an account, to sync across devices.
- If you choose to connect a financial account, we use Plaid Technologies, Inc. ("Plaid") to help link the account and retrieve account and transaction data that can help match captured purchases to card transactions.

1) Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Nomad Purse ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use: (a) the Nomad Purse Android app, (b) the Nomad Purse iOS app, and (c) our website and web/desktop experience at NomadPurse.com (collectively, the "Services").
2) Information We Collect
A. Information you provide
- Account information: data you provide to create or sign in to an account, such as email/username and credentials supported at the time.
- Budgeting and trip data: trips, dates, participants if you add them, expenses, categories/groups, notes, currencies, and related budgeting metadata you choose to store.
- Receipts and attachments: images and files you upload or capture and associate with expenses, such as receipt photos.
- Purchase capture data: if you use purchase capture features, we may process the time, selected trip, payment method, optional receipt, and optional location/place information related to a purchase you choose to capture.
- Payments and purchases: if you purchase a product or subscription, we receive purchase-related metadata and billing administration details needed to deliver the purchase. Exact payment handling depends on the store/provider you use.
- Support communications: information you include when you contact us, such as message content, attachments, and optional diagnostics you choose to share.
B. Connected financial account information
If you choose to connect a financial account, Nomad Purse uses Plaid to help you securely connect your account. You are redirected through Plaid Link to authorize the connection. Nomad Purse does not collect or store your bank login credentials.
Depending on the accounts and permissions you authorize through Plaid, we may receive and store:
- institution name and institution identifier;
- account name, official account name, account type/subtype, account mask, and currency;
- transaction date, authorized date, amount, currency, merchant name, transaction description, payment channel, pending/posted status, and category metadata;
- Plaid Item/account/transaction identifiers needed to maintain the connection, sync updates, prevent duplicate matches, and disconnect accounts;
- error/status information needed to repair or disconnect the connection.
We use connected financial account data to suggest possible matches between card transactions and purchases or expenses you captured in Nomad Purse. You remain responsible for reviewing and approving matches.
C. Information collected automatically
- Device and app data: app version, device model, OS version, language/locale, and timestamps related to app actions, such as last sync time, used for reliability and troubleshooting.
- Server and network logs: when you use online features, our servers may log standard data such as IP address, request time, and basic request metadata to operate and secure the Services.
- Web cookies and similar technologies: the website may use cookies/local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and support essential site functionality. We do not use cookies for third-party ad targeting.
D. Information we collect with permissions
- Camera: if you allow camera access, you can capture receipt images.
- Location: if you allow location access, we may use your current location to help populate an expense location or suggest a nearby merchant when you choose to capture or edit an expense.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, we may send reminders related to budgeting habits.
- Financial account connection: if you choose to connect a financial account, Plaid Link will ask you to authorize access to specific financial account information.
E. Information stored on your device
- Local database and cache: the mobile apps store your trips/expenses locally for offline use. Receipt media may be cached on-device for performance and offline availability.
- Preferences: settings such as offline mode, sorting/filtering, and optional debug settings if present.
3) How We Use Your Information
- Provide core budgeting, travel expense tracking, receipt attachment, reporting, and insight features.
- Authenticate you and sync your data across devices and platforms.
- Enable offline use in the mobile apps.
- If you connect a financial account, suggest matches between captured purchases and card transactions.
- Maintain financial connections, sync transaction updates, show connection status, repair connections when needed, and disconnect accounts when requested.
- Send reminders and notifications you opt into.
- Protect accounts, investigate suspicious activity, prevent fraud/abuse, enforce our terms, provide support, and comply with applicable law.
No sale of personal information: we do not sell personal information. No third-party advertising: the Services are not designed to serve third-party ads. No bank credential storage: Nomad Purse does not collect or store your bank login credentials.
4) How We Share Information
- Service providers: vendors who help us operate the Services, such as hosting, database infrastructure, email/support tooling, payment providers, and security/reliability vendors.
- Plaid and connected account providers: when you choose to connect a financial account, information is processed by Plaid and may involve your financial institution so the connection can be established, maintained, repaired, or disconnected.
- App stores and payment processors: if you install or purchase through Google Play or Apple's App Store, those platforms process certain data under their own privacy policies.
- Maps and location providers: if you use map/location features, map or location providers may receive standard request data needed to provide those features.
- Legal and safety: where disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect rights/property, or protect users and the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate protections.
- With your direction/consent: when you choose to share data, export data, connect an account, or email us with attachments.
5) Third-Party Services and External Links
- Plaid: Plaid helps users connect financial accounts. When you use Plaid Link, Plaid may collect and process information according to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy, available at https://plaid.com/legal/#end-user-privacy-policy.
- App stores and payment processors: purchases through Google Play or Apple App Store are handled by those platforms under their policies.
- Maps: where applicable, map tiles and related requests may be fetched from third-party map infrastructure.
- External links: links to third-party sites are governed by their own privacy policies.
6) Data Security
We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. Client-server communication and server-to-Plaid communication use HTTPS/TLS where applicable. Plaid credentials and access tokens are handled server-side. Plaid access tokens are encrypted before being stored. Browser, iOS, and Android clients do not store Plaid access tokens.
Some data must remain available for application features such as searching, syncing, displaying expenses, and matching transactions. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7) Data Retention
- Account and synced data: retained while your account is active or as needed to provide the Services.
- Connected financial account tokens: retained only while you keep the financial account connected. When you disconnect, we stop future syncing and remove or invalidate the stored Plaid access token where applicable.
- Connected financial transaction data: retained while needed to provide expense matching, preserve your expense history, maintain audit/matching integrity, prevent duplicate matches, comply with legal obligations, or support user-requested account history.
- Local data on your device: remains until you delete it in-app, clear app storage, or uninstall.
- Support communications: retained for a reasonable period to address requests and improve support.
- Backups: deleted data may remain in backups for a limited period until overwritten according to normal backup rotation.
8) Your Choices
- You can grant or revoke camera, location, and notification permissions via your device or browser settings.
- Connecting a financial account is optional. You can disconnect a linked account from Nomad Purse. After disconnecting, we stop future syncing and remove or invalidate the stored Plaid access token where applicable.
- You may contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or export of your personal data, subject to applicable law and verification.
9) Regional Privacy Disclosures
A. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or information about our collection and disclosure of personal information, subject to legal exceptions. We do not sell personal information and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Depending on your use of connected financial account features, financial account and transaction data may be considered sensitive personal information. We use this data only to provide the Services you request, maintain security, comply with law, and support account management.
B. EU/UK Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA/UK, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability, subject to applicable law.
Legal bases: we process personal data to provide the Services (contract), operate and secure the Services (legitimate interests), comply with legal obligations, and, where applicable, based on your consent, such as optional mobile permissions or your choice to connect a financial account through Plaid.
10) International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than where you live, including the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
11) Children’s Privacy
The Services are not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Users must be old enough to use the Services under our Terms.
12) Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last Updated” date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice within the Services or via other reasonable means.
